Volleyball Regular Season Ends With Loss to Dawson

Pioneers 1... Dawson 3 (24-26, 20-25, 25-16, 19-25)

The MCC Pioneer Volleyball regular season came to a disappointing close on Tuesday night in Miles City as the Dawson CC Bucs rolled in to the Centra and defeated the Pioneers for the 1st time in 3 tries. The Pioneers had swept Dawson the previous 2 times that the teams had played during the regular season.

Dawson snuck out a hard fought game 1 and then dominated game 2 to take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Pioneers then turned the tides and appeared to have momentum on their side after winning game 3 by the score of 25-16. It was not to be the Pioneers night as Dawson quickly rallied in game 4 to take control early and dispose of the Pioneers.

Johanna Limberhand (Freshman - Hardin, MT) and Kayla Jensen (Freshman - Lewistown, MT) each came up with 10 kills in the match. Taiya Guptill mustered up 34 assists and Mackenzie Deford (Freshman - Clyde Park, MT) served up 5 aces.

Defensively, Cameron Blevins (Sophomore - Shelby, MT) had 22 digs and Grace Gackle (Sophomore - Circle, MT) had 4 blocks.

With the loss, the Pioneers finish 3rd place in the MonDak Conference with a 6-4 record and were 14-11 overall. They head to the Region XIII Playoffs in Wahpeton, ND as the #1 seed from the West Region XIII and will play either 2nd place from the east (Lake Region State College) or (Dawson/Dakota College at Bottineau). 3rd Place West (Dawson) faces 3rd Place East (Dakota College at Bottineau) on Wednesday night with the winner facing Lake Region State College on Saturday, November 1 at 11:00 AM CST. The Pioneer match will take place at 4:00 PM CST in the semifinal. The Region XIII Championship match is set for Sunday, November 2 at 2:00 PM CST in Wahpeton.
