The MCC Pioneer Volleyball took a quick break from MonDak Conference action on Tuesday night with a doubleheader sweep of the Dickinson State JV at the MCC Centra. The win was not without a loss as sophomore hitter Olivia Easton broke her arm in a fall during match one. The Pioneers dominated match 1 from the start as they easily defeated the Bluehawks 25-18, 25-22, 25-16. While making quick work of the Bluehawks, MCC was led in kills by Gillette, Wyoming native Angela Youngs with 9. Celsa Castro (Roundup, MT) dished out 21 assists and Matilda Dietz (Manhattan, MT) had 15 digs. Miles City native Sydney Johnstone had 3 aces and 1.5 blocks.
Match 2 started out much the same way as match 1 as the Pioneers took early control before DSU stormed back for a 28-30 win. MCC took control once again by winning games 2-4 by the scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23. The victory bumped the Pioneers record to 7-6 on the season. Dietz was again the digs leader with 17. Sophomore Kadyn Acor (Havre, MT) had a huge match with 16 kills. Mandi Tvedt (Glenrock, WY) stepped up big time with 29 assists. Youngs led with 1.5 blocks and Cloe Cota (Roundup, MT) buttered up 2 aces.
The Pioneers hit the road this weekend with back to back conference matches at Dakota College Bottineau on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Friday's match will start at 6:00 PM MST and Saturday will go at 2:00 PM MST. The Pioneers are currently 3rd in the MonDak Conference standings.
