Lake Region State Handles Pioneer Women

Lake Region State knocked down 11-24 from the 3-point line and the Royals defense held MCC to just 31% shooting enroute to a 83-64 win over the Pioneers in Devils Lake, ND on Super Bowl Sunday. 

The Royals got out to an early lead and never looked back as LRSC led the Pioneers from start to finish. The Royals extended a 17-13 1st quarter lead to 23-13 with a 6-0 run to end the quarter. The Pioneers battled back in the 2nd quarter to go in to the halftime break trailing just 39-35. Lake Region then used the same 23-13 advantage in the 3rd quarter that it did in the 1st quarter to build the lead to 62-48 after 3 quarters of play. 

Zoie Austin put up a double double for the Royals with 22 points (10-22 FG, 1-3 3's, 1-3 FT) and 10 rebounds. Jenna Tierney and Sydney Schwabe each had 13 points and 8 rebounds.

The Pioneers were led by Jai Baumann (Freshman - Big Sandy, MT) with 19 points (7-15 FG, 4-8 3's, 1-4 FT) and 4 assists. Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) added 17 points (4-12 FG, 1-8 3's, 8-13 FT) and 7 rebounds. Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) had 13 points (5-18 FG, 1-6 3's, 2-3 FT) and 6 rebounds. Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 9 assists.
