Dominant 2nd Half Propels Pioneer Women Past Dawson

The MCC Pioneer women went to the locker room at halftime in Glendive, MT trailing the Dawson CC Buccaneers 34-28. What transpired after the half is something the Pioneers would love to bottle up and carry to every game for the remainder of the season. The Pioneers outscored Dawson 50-22 in the 2nd half and cruised to a 78-55 win and push MCC past Dawson in the MonDak Conference standings. 

The in-state rivals traded blows in the first half as Dawson built an 8-point lead in the 2nd quarter after the game was tied 20-20 at the end of the 1st quarter in which both teams combined for 55% shooting in the quarter. Dawson hit 3-7 from the 3-point line in the 1st quarter. The Pioneer defense held Dawson to just 2-18 field goals in the 3rd quarter and 1-10 on 3-pointers to outscore the Buccaneers 27-11 in that frame. 

Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) continued her strong play with 22 points (10-15 FG, 2-5 FT), 14 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals. She was backed up by 3 other players hitting for double figures. Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) supplied 15 points (4-11 FG, 2-7 3's, 5-6 FT) and Matilda Sanz (Freshman  - Madrid, Spain) had 11 points (5-19 FG, 1-9 3's). Hailey Dennison (Freshman - Shepherd, MT) had 10 points (5-9 FG, 0-1 3's). Jai Baumann (Freshman - Big Sandy, MT) and Pien Draisma (Sophomore - Katwijk, Netherlands) each had 6 rebounds.
