Royals Torrid Shooting Pushes Lake Region Past Pioneer Women

Lake Region State knocked down 13 3-pointers and led from start to finish enroute to a 93-60 victory over the MCC Pioneers on Sunday afternoon in Miles City, MT. 

Zoie Austin poured in 28 points (11-18 FG, 2-2 3's, 4-11 FT), pulled down 8 rebounds, and had 5 assists to lead the Royals charge. Torri Fee came off the bench to knock down 6 3-pointers on her way to 22 points in just 18 minutes of action. 

The Pioneers were led by Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) and Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) with 14 points each. Those points were not easy to come by as Elness was 6-20 from the field, 0-6 on 3's, and 2-3 at the free throw line. Sanz was 5-19 from the field, 1-9 3's, and 3-4 on free throws. Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) added 11 points (5-15 FG, 1-3 3's). Sanz and Mbagwu each had 8 rebounds while Elness and Hailey Dennison (Freshman - Shepherd, MT) each had 6 rebounds.

  • The Pioneers shot 22-76 (29%) from the field and 5-32 (16%) from 3-point range. MCC was 11-15 from the free throw line. 
  • The Royals shot 32-67 (48%) from the field and 13-30 (43%) from 3-point range. LRSC was 16-28 from the free throw line. 
  • Lake Region outrebounded Miles 42-37. LRSC had 11 offensive rebounds and MCC had 13. 
  • The Pioneers had 14 turnovers and the Royals had 15. Each team scored 15 points off turnovers. 

The Pioneers are now 9-12 on the season and 1-2 in MonDak Conference play. MCC hosts a Martin Luther King Day matinee at 11:00 AM against the NDSCS Wildcats.
