North Idaho College busted open a close game in the 2nd quarter by outscoring the MCC Pioneers 25-9 and carried that to a 81-59 win on Friday night in Coeur d' Alene, ID.
Both teams got off to slow starts but a late 1st quarter run by the Cardinals game them a 18-13 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter was all NIC and the Pioneers could not close teh gap in the 2nd half.
The Pioneers got 21 points (7-16 FG, 1-7 3's, 6-9 FT) from Laynee Elness (Freshman - Winifred, MT) and 18 (8-19 FG, 2-4 3's) more from Matilda Sanz (Freshman - Madrid, Spain) to go along with a team high 7 rebounds. Ebele Mbagwu (Freshman - Bakersfield, CA) added 12 points (4-13 FG, 0-2 3's, 4-5 FT), 8 steals, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jai Baumann (Freshman - Big Sandy, MT) came off the bench to grab 6 rebounds and have 4 steals.
North Idaho put 4 players in double figures and 10 in to the scoring column. NIC moved to 3-5 on the season.
