United Tribes Defense Shuts Down Pioneer Women

The United Tribes T-Bird defense held the MCC Pioneers to just 27% shooting from the field and 8% from the 3-point line and routed the Pioneers 68-40 on Sunday afternoon in Miles City. United Tribes gathered some revenge from a January loss to the Pioneers in Bismarck when the Pioneers won 72-63.

Natalie DeCoteau (Sophomore - St. John, ND) scored 23 points (9-20 FG, 2-7 3's, 3-4 FT) and 9 rebounds, to lead the way for the T-Birds who moved to 5-4 in MonDak Conference play and 12-12 overall. The T-Birds also got 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-1 FT) off the bench from Ezura Rainbow (Freshman - Fort Totten, ND) and Alionna Lawrence (Sophomore - Fort Totten, ND) had 9 rebounds and 6 assists. 

United Tribes held the Pioneers to under 10 points in the 1st and 3rd quarters and MCC did not hit the 40 point mark until a basket with :14 remaining in the contest. 

MCC was led by Lainey Smith (Sophomore - Miles City, MT) with 11 points (5-13 FG, 0-1 3's) and 8 rebounds. Hannah Wildner (Sophomore - Melbourne, Australia) chipped in 10 points (5-15 FG, 0-3 3's, 0-1 FT).

  • The Pioneers shot 17-62 (27%) from the field and 2-24 from the 3-point line. MCC hit just 4-9 from the free throw line. 
  • The T-Birds shot 26-61 (43%) from the field and 8-26 from the 3-point line. UTTC was 8-13 at the free throw line. 
  • UTTC outrebounded the Pioneers 43-32. UTTC had 8 offensive rebounds and MCC had 10. 
  • The Pioneers committed 17 turnovers and the T-Birds had 16. 
  • United Tribes scored first and led for the entirety of the contest. 

The Pioneers are now 2-8 in MonDak Conference play and 4-22 overall. They will host Bismarck State tonight at 5:30 PM at the MCC Centra. MCC will honor 7 sophomores after the completion of the women's game for sophomore night.
