Pioneer Women Snap 12-Game Losing Streak With Split on Bismarck Trip

The MCC Pioneer Women's Basketball team got a huge monkey off their back snapping a 12-game losing streak and handing interim head coach Sam Kortum her 1st college coacing victory. 

The Pioneers dropped a 91-62 decision at Bismarck State on Sunday and then defeated United Tribes 72-63 on Monday night at United Tribes. 

Pioneers 62... Bismarck State 91

5 Bismarck State Mystics reached double figures and the Mystics used a huge 28-12 advantage in the 2nd quarter to build a 53-28 lead at the half and coasting to a 91-62 win on Sunday afternoon in Bismarck, ND. 

Harys Beauchamp scored 21 points (7-15 FG, 2-7 3's, 5-5 FT) and grabbed a team high 8 rebounds while Aleah McPherson scored 20 points (7-17 FG, 4-11 3's, 2-2 FT), dished out 6 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds.

The Pioneers were led in scoring off the bench by Tyla Scorah (Freshman - Pakenham, Victoria) with 17 points (5-13 FG, 4-8 3's, 3-4 3's) and 4 steals while Lainey Smith (Sophomore - Miles City, MT) chipped in 11 points 4-11 FG, 2-5 3's, 1-2 FT) and 7 rebounds in the MonDak Conference loss.

Pioneers 72... United Tribes Tech 62

Interim Head Coach Sam Kortum snagged her first career victory and the Pioneers snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 72-63 win on Monday night in Bismarck, ND. 

Tyla Scorah led 4 Pioneers in double figures with a 22 point (7-22 FG, 5-9 3's, 3-4 FT), 5 rebound effort and Isabella Gurie (Sophomore - Columbus, MT) hit for 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 FT) as the Pioneers picked up their 3rd victory of the season and 1st against a NJCAA team. Lainey Smith added 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-5 3's) and 7 rebounds while Jessica Makayabo (Sophomore - Eastlake, TX) keyed a 3rd quarter run for MCC with 10 points (3-9 FG, 4-4 FT) and 4 rebounds. 

MCC led 29-28 at halftime and extended that lead to 19 points (64-45) with 4 minutes to play in thhe game. 

UTTC got 17 points (6-14 FG, 2-4 3's, 3-4 FT) from Alionna Lawrence and 16 (7-24, 1-8 3's, 1-2 FT) from Natalie Decoteau.
