The MCC women's basketball team shook off a cold shooting night from 3-point line and an early first half deficit to win their season opener at the MonDak Conference Preseason Tournament.
Four Pioneers scored in double figures and MCC outscored Dakota College-Bottineau 49-23 in the second half and ran away with an 83-53 victory to start off the 2019-20 campaign. The defending MonDak Champions returned only one starter from last years team and under new coach Taylor Harris the Pioneers had a big second half to run away with the game.
Binta Salawu scored 16 points, Kate Golovkina and Lili Long added 14, and Jazmyn Kellogg chipped in 11 for the winners. Golovkina led the Pioneers in rebounding with 11 while Long and Olyvia Pacheco had 8.
MCC onlly shot 5-27 from distance but hit 20-28 from the FT line and shot 45% from the field in the second half.
The Pioneers will play the winner of the Lake Region/Dawson game tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 PM MST.
