Pioneers Drop 10-Inning Heartbreaker at Region XIII Playoffs

Pioneers 2... Dakota County Technical College 3 (10 Innings)

Dakota County's Kayla Buck hit a line drive double with 2 outs in the top of the 10th inning to drive in the go ahead run in a 3-2 win over the MCC Pioneers on Thursday in Rosemount, MN. The winning run came after Lily Gilmore reached base on a MCC Pioneer error that would have ended the top half of the 10th.

DCTC got on the board with 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. They wouldn't score again until the 10th inning.

The Pioneers cut the lead in half in the 2nd inning. Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT) doubled to start the inning and with one out Paityn Ralphs (1B - Ammon, ID) singled to put runners on the corners. Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT) singled to drive in Schaffer. MCC tied the game in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly from Schaffer that plated Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID).

Neither team scored after the 3rd until the go ahead run in the 10th. The Pioneers had ample opportunities to score late in the game but were unable to push in the go ahead or winning run.

The Pioneers left 13 runners on base and 9 in scoring position during the game.

Webb, Emily Robbins (CF - Rexburg, ID), Schaffer, and Lowell each had 2 hits.

Rylynn Kreing pitched all 10 innings (8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) and took the loss.
