Pioneers Split Final Day With Conference Champion Wildcats

Game 1 - Pioneers 7... NDSCS Wildcats 3

The MCC Pioneers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to break a 3-3 tie and went on to defeat the 2026 MonDak Conference Champion NDSCS Wildcats in game 3 of a 4-game series in Wahpeton on Sunday afternoon. 

Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT) hit a RBI double to give the Pioneers the lead in the 6th inning and Paityn Ralphs (1B - Ammon, ID) drove in Schaffer and Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT) ended the scoring spree with a 2-run home run. 

MCC got on the board in the bottom of the 1st inning when Schaffer and Ralphs both hit RBI singles to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. 

NDSCS scored a run in the top of the 2nd and then took the lead with 2 runs in the 4th inning. The Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the 4th on a home run from Schaffer. 

Schaffer ended the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI while Lowell and Ralphs each had 2 hits and 2 RBI. 

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) pitched a complete game 7 innings (6 H, 3 R, 4 SO).

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 9 hits (2 HR, 2 2B) and the Wildcats had 6 hits (HR, 2B).
  • NDSCS had the only error of the game. 
  • MCC had 3 stolen bases.
  • Neither team had a walk or a hit batsman.
  • Pioneer batters struck out 7 times and Wildcat batters struck out 4 times. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 2... NDSCS Wildcats 7

NDSCS pounded out 13 hits (2 HR, 4 2B) and took advantage of 3 Pioneer errors and took game 2 on Sunday 7-2. 

The Pioneers scored 1st by plating a run in the bottom of the 1st on a ground out but could not capitalize with more runs as MCC stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. 

NDSCS scored 3 runs in the top of the 3rd and MCC got a run in the bottom of the inning on a Rylynn Krein home run to cut the lead to 3-2. The Pioneers would not score again and NDSCS got 2 runs in the top of the 4th and another in the 5th and 7th inning to take the win. 

Kayla Jensen (Lewistown, MT) pitched the full 7 innings (13 H, 7 R, 5 ER, BB, SO) and took the loss.

  • NDSCS did not commit an error and MCC had 3. 
  • NDSCS had the only stolen base in the game. 
  • MCC batters struck out 7 times and walked 4 times. 
  • NDSCS batters struck out once and walked once. 

 NDSCS wins the MonDak Conference with a 17-3 record and 46-7 overall. The Pioneers finish 12-8 in conference and 24-20 overall. The Region XIII Playoffs begin Thursday in Rosemount, MN. Playoff information will be released on Monday.
