Krein Tosses No-Hitter in Game 1 Win; Pioneers Get Blasted by Tetons in Game 2

Pioneers 9... Williston State 0 (5 Innings)

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) tossed her 2nd no-hitter of the season and the MCC Pioneer bats came alive after a quiet day Sunday as the Pioneers rolled to a 9-0 win in 5 innings Monday afternoon in Williston. 

The Pioneers plated 2 runs in the 2nd inning and then piled on 6 runs in the 4th with some hot hitting to take the win after splitting games on Sunday in Miles City. 

Sydney Goldbar (2B - Missoula, MT) got the scoring started with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Paityn Ralphs (1B - Ammon, ID) singled and then with 2 outs Emily Robins (CF - Rexburg, ID) hit a RBI double for a 2-0 lead. MCC took a 3-0 lead on back to back triples from Krein and Brooke Schaffer (2B - Missoula, MT) in the 3rd inning for a 3-0 lead.

The 6-run 4th inning started with a single by Ralphs and Liz Cunningham (RF - Polson, MT) sacrificed to move Ralphs to 2nd. Robins came thru again with a RBI single. Adrie Mortensen (Rexburg, ID) connected with a RBI double and a 5-0 lead. Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID) doubled in a run and then scored on a RBI single from Brylee Lowell (LF - Columbus, MT). Krein followed with a single and Goldbar added 2 RBI to her resume with a bases clearing triple. 

8 different Pioneers got hits and Krein, Goldbar, Ralphs,and Robins each had 2 hits in the game. 

Krein pitched 5 innings (2 BB, 6 SO) in the no-hitter. 

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC had 12 hits (HR, 3 3B, 3 2B) and WSC was hitless. 
  • MCC had the only error in the game. 
  • The Pioneers had 2 stolen bases.
  • Pioneer batters struck out 4 times. 

 

Pioneers 5... Williston State 16 (5 Innings)

Williston State got a bit of revenge on the MCC Pioneers after being no hit and losing 9-0 in game 1. The Tetons pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of 5 Pioneer errors and walked away with a 16-5 win and split games on Monday in Williston. 

MCC took the early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Emily Robins (CF - Rexburg, ID) reached base on an error and scored on a wild pitch. WSC answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning. The Pioneers then took a 4-3 lead with 3 runs in the 2nd inning. MCC picked up runs on a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly from Addison Sanders (3B - Idaho Falls), and a RBI single from Rylynn Krein

The game got flipped on its head in the 3rd inning when WSC plated 10 runs. The Tetons added insult to injury with 3 more runs in the 4th inning to take a 16-4 lead. MCC got 1 run in the 5th on a RBI double from Robins but it was not enough to keep the game going. 

Robins was the only Pioneer with multiple hits (3).

Kayla Jensen (Lewistow) started the game and pitched 2.1 innings (10 H, 11 R, 6 ER, BB) and Krein pitched the next 0.2 innings (2 R, SO). Harley Brown finished the final inning (5 H, 3 R, SO).

  • MCC had 5 errors and WSC had 2.

Both teams are now 11-5 in conference play and tied for 3rd place. MCC is 23-17 overall and will head to Wahpeton, ND for doubleheaders to end conference play on Saturday and Sunday.
