Pioneers Pitch 2 Shutouts to Complete Weekend Sweep of Bottineau

Game 1 - Pioneers 28... Dakota College at Bottineau 0 (5 Innings)

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) tossed a no-hitter and the MCC Pioneer bats went ballistic ripping 20 hits and piling on 28 runs in the shutout victory.

The Pioneers scored two runs in the 1st inning on a 2-run home run by Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT). They then picked up 3 runs in the 2nd inning after a leadoff double from Paityn Ralphs (2B - Ammon, ID) and RBI single from Adrie Mortensen (C - Rexburg, ID). Emily Robins (CF - Rexburg, ID) singled and Mortensen scored on a sacrifice and Robins proceeed to score on a Lumberjack error. 

The Pioneers did the majority of their damage in the 3rd inning. MCC piled up 16 runs in the inning after a slew of singles, walks, and Lumberjack errors. MCC then scored 6 more runs in the 4th inning in similar fashion and ended their offensive onslaught with one run in the 5th inning. 

Krein and Schaffer each had 3 hits, scored 3 runs, and had 2 RBI. Liz Cunningham (RF - Polson, MT), Ralphs, Mortensen, and Robins all had 2 hits. Ralphs and Mortensen drove in 3 runs apeice and Robins had 2 RBI. Brooklyn Ostermiller (Huntley, MT) and Brylee Lowell (Columbus, MT) also had 2 RBI each. 

Krein struck out 10 and walked 1 in her 5 innings of work. 

Inside the Box Score

  • MCC had 2 doubles and a home run. 
  • DCB committed 6 errors and the Pioneers had 1. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out twice and walked 7 times. 
  • DCB batters struck out 10 times and walked once. 

Game 2 - Pioneers 11... Dakota College at Bottineau 0 (6 Innings)

MCC Pioneer pitcher Kayla Jensen (Lewistown, MT) picked up right were Rylynn Krein left off by striking out 9 batters and giving up only 2 hits as the Pioneers once again shut down the Lumberjacks witha  11-0 victory to complete the 4-game sweep. 

The Pioneers had a little tougher times scoring runs but were able to get 6 runs across home place in the 6th inning to end the game in the 6th. 

MCC got a run in the 1st inning on a Lumberjack error. After not scoring in the 2nd inning, MCC got 2 runs in the 3rd inning on an error and a fielder's choice. 2 more runs came across in the 5th inning on a RBI single from Krein and a RBI double from Brooke Schaffer. 

In the 6-run 6th inning, Rhanda Vindiola (LF - Columbus, MT) led the inning off with a double and scored on a Madison Moorman (RF - Laurel, MT) single. Moorman moved to 3rd on a single from Ava Lund (C - Belgrade, MT) and then scored on a steal of home. Lund scored on a sacrifice fly RBI from Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID). Krein hit a RBI single and the the final score of the game came on a 2-run home run from Schaffer. 

Schaffer had 3 hits and 3 RBI while Krein had 2 hits and 3 RBI. Vindiola also had 2 hits. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 2 doubles and a home run. 
  • MCC had 9 stolen bases. and DCB had 1. 
  • DCB committed 4 errors. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 5 times and walked once. 

The Pioneers are 4-0 in MonDak Conference play and 16-12 overall. Next up is a 4-game series with Dawson CC but weather may have an effect on the game days. The current schedule has 2 games in Miles City on Friday and 2 in Glendive on Saturday. Look on www.mccpioneers.com for schedule updates.
