Game 1 - Pioneers 2... Northeastern JC 10 (5 Innings)

Northeastern Junior College broke open a close game with a 9-run 4th inning and the Plainsmen pitching did enough to slow the bats of the MCC Pioneers in a 10-2 win on Tuesday afternoon in Sterling, CO. 

The Pioneers got on the board first with a run in the 2nd inning. Brylee Lowell (CF - Columbus, MT) walked, stole 2nd, and moved to 3rd base on a single from Liz Cunningham (RF - Polson, MT). Addison Sanders (Idaho Falls, ID) drove in Lowell with an infield single. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Pioneers until the 4th inning when NJC plated 6 runs on 6 singles, a double, and a home run. 

MCC tried to rally in the 5th inning with 3 singles in a row ending with a RBI single from Brooke Schaffer (3B - Missoula, MT) but the rally ended quickly. 

NJC plated a run in the bottom of the 5th to end the game early. 

Pioneers with 2+ hits: Robins 2-3 (2B), Krein 2-3, and Cunningham 2-3. 

Kayla Jensen (Lewistown, MT) got the start for the Pioneers and pitched 3.1 innings (7 H, 6 R, BB, SO) and Harley Brown (Great Falls, MT) pitched the final 0.2 innings (5 H, 4 R, BB0.

  • The Pioneers had 9 hits (2B) and the Plainsmen had 12 hits (HR, 3 2B).

Game 2 - Pioneers 0... Northeastern JC 4

With the Scottsbluff, NE wind blowing 40+ per hour straight in, the MCC Pioneers could not get their bats heated up in game 2. The Pioneers mustered up only 4 hits (3B and 3 singles).

NJC plated a run in the 3rd inning after a walk and 2 bunt singles. That 1-0 score held until the 6th inning when they got a single, a walk, and a 2 run triple followed by a sacrifice bunt RBI. 

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) started the game in the circle and was saddled with her first loss of the season. Krein pitched all 6 innings (7 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 2 SO).

  • NJC committed the only error of the game. 
  • The Pioneers had 1 stolen base and NJC had 4.
  • NJC had 7 hits (3B).

The Pioneers are now 4-4 on the season and will resume play March 3 in Cocoa Beach, Florida against Kalamazoo Valley CC.
