Pioneer Softball Defeats Dawson After Being Shut Out in Game 1

Game 1 - Pioneers 0... Dawson 4

Game 1 featured a pitchers dual that saw Dawson CC score the only runs of the game in the top of the 3rd inning. The Bucs got 3 of their 6 hits in the game in the 3rd inning and took advantage of a Pioneer fielding error to score their final 2 runs of the inning after a 2 RBI double by pitcher Allie Anderson. 

Addison Sanders (3B - Idaho Falls, ID) had 3 of the Pioneer 6 hits in the game going 3-3 at the plate. The Pioneers best opportunity to score was in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Brooke Richardson (1B - Helena, MT) led the inning off with a double and Sanders had one of her 3 hits and the Pioneers had runners on the corners with no outs. MCC then hit an infield pop up and struck out twice looking and the threat ended there. 

Rylynn Krein (Fergus Falls, MN) had a strong pitching effort going the complete game 7 innings (4 R, 2 ER, 6 H, BB, 5 SO) but took the loss.

Game 2 - Pioneers 11... Dawson 3 (5 Innings)

The Pioneers turned the tides on Dawson and got their bats clicking and defeated the Buccaneers 11-3 in 5 innings to salvage one game of the 4 games played this season. 

Dawson got on the board 1st with 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning and the Pioneers broke their scoring ice after being shut out in game one, scored a run in the bottom of the 1st. Malory Webb (SS - Idaho Falls, ID) slapped a double to lead off the game and moved to 3rd on a line out but Webb caught the defense napping and got to 3rd. She scored on a fielder's choice ground out by Rylynn Krein

The Pioneers took their first lead of the day with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Addison Sanders led the inning off with a walk and a sacrifice bunt from Dalilah Hernandez (2B - Laurel, MT) pushed Sanders to 2nd. Megan Brownson (C - Billings, MT) singled and MCC had runners on the corners with 1 out. Khloey Robinson (LF - Belgrade, MT) laid down a perfect bunt single to score Sanders and the Pioneers had runners on 1st and 2nd. Brylee Lowell (RF - Columbus, MT) pulled off a bunt single of her own to load the bases. Webb then hit a sacrifice fly RBI to give MCC a 3-2 lead. 

Dawson tied the game 3-3 in the top of the 3rd but the Pioneers exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Krein led the inning with a double and Brooke Richardson reached base on an error and MCC had runners on the corners. Sanders connected on a RBI single that scored the first run of the inning. Hernandez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brownson hit a sacrifice fly RBI to bring in Richardson. Robinson then executed another bunt single that drove in Sanders. The big shot of the inning came next on a 3-run home run off the bat of Brylee Lowell that gave MCC a 9-3 lead. 

Neither team would score in the 4th inning and the Pioneers ended the game with 2 runs in the 5th inning. Lowell stayed hot with a 1-out double and Webb followed that with a single. Arin Eaton (P - Belgrade, MT) singled to drive in Lowell and Krein walked to load the bases. Brooke Richardson ended the game with a sacrifice fly RBI to give MCC an 11-3 victory. 

Lowell finished with 3 hits in the game and to top of the Pioneer lineup (Webb, Eaton, Krein) all had 2 hits. 

Rylie Schlepp (Helena, MT) got the pitching start for MCC and went 3 innings (3 R, 4 H, 2 BB) and was replaced by Arin Eaton for the final 2 innings (BB, SO).

  • Dawson had 2 errors and Miles had one.

The Pioneers are 14-6 in MonDak Conference play and have one series remaining against Bismarck State on April 26 (Miles City, MT) and April 27 (Bismarck, ND). Dawson is 11-5 in conference play.
