Pioneers Split Final Home Games of Season With NDSCS

Game 1 - Pioneers 1... NDSCS 9 (6 Innings)

Monday morning's showdown against the NDSCS Wildcats could not have gone much worse for the Pioneers. MCC mustered up only 2 hits and committed 3 errors and watched the Wildcats run away with 5 runs in the 3rd inning leading to a 9-1 loss. The Wilcats scored a run in every other inning except the 2nd. 

MCC's only offense of the game was a solo home run in the 3rd inning by C HaiLeigh Davis (Shepherd, MT) that tied the game at 1-1. Science quickly answered with 5 in the bottom of the 3rd to create separation. 2B Shannon Nelson (Livingston, MT) got the only other hit for the Pioneers. 

Payton Whitehead got the start going 5.1 innings (7 H, 9 R, 4 BB, SO) and got saddled with the loss. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers committed 3 errors and the Wildcats only 1.
  • MCC struck out 9 times and only walked twice. NDSCS struck out only once and walked 4 times. 
  • NDSCS had the only stolen base of the game. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 12... NDSCS 4 (6 Innings)

The Pioneers rallied quickly from the game one loss by scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning, 4 more in the 2nd, and then finished the game off in style with 5 runs in the 6th inning for a walk-off victory. 

Trailing 1-0 after the top of the 1st, MCC got a one out single from RF Cassidy Bagnell (Frenchtown, MT). LF Liz Ybarra (Belgrade, MT) reached base on an error and moved to 2nd as Bagnell got to 3rd. With 2 outs, Bagnell scored on a passed ball with Ybarra moving to 3rd. 3B Morgan Lampshire (Murray, UT) walked to put runners on the corners. Ybarra scored on a passed ball and C Taylor Feller (Laurel, MT) singled putting runners on corners again.  1B Isabelle Adams (Park City, MT) singled to drive in Lampshire for a 3-1 lead. 

MCC quickly took control of the game in the bottom of the 2nd inning after Shannon Nelson singled and SS Sierra John (Idaho Falls, ID) was hit by a pitch. Bagnell then singled and 2 runners scored on an error by the Wildcat leftfielder. Bagnell ended up on 3rd base and quickly scored when Liz Ybarra reached base on an error. CF Reed Johnson (Columbus, MT) walked. With 2 outs, both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch. Ybarra scored again on a wild pitch to bump the score to 7-1. 

NDSCS inched closer with a run in the 3rd and 2 more in the 4th. In the bottom of the 6th inning Bagnell, Ybarra, and Lampshire walked the bases loaded for a Feller double that drove in 2 runs. Lampsire scored on a Hazel Eaton (Belgrade, MT) groundout. HaiLeigh Davis then doubled to drive in Feller. Alexa Lewis (Bozeman, MT) came in to run for Feller and scored after stealing 3rd and getting home on a Wildcat error. 

Madi Henry (Spanish Fork, UT) pitched a complete game 6 innings (9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, SO) for the Pioneers. 

Inside the Box Score

  • NDSCS committed 6 errors in the game and MCC had 2.
  • MCC batters walked 6 times and Sierra John was hit by pitch twice. NDSCS batters walked only twice. 
  • Alexa Lewis had the only stolen base of the game and NDSCS had 2.
  • Bagnell and Feller each had 2 RBI. 

The Pioneers are 13-3 in MonDak Conference play and 26-5 overall. They hit the road for the 1st time in conference play this week with games at Bismarck State (Wednesday), Bottineau (Friday), Williston (Saturday), and Dawson (Sunday).
