Pioneer Softball Routes Vermillion; Drops One to Dakota Wesleyan JV on Sunday in Tucson

Pioneers 23... Minnesota North College - Vermillion 1 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneer softball team scored at least 2 runs in all 5 innings including 9 in the 2nd enroute to a dominating 23-1 win over Minnesota North-Vermillion on Sunday in Tucson, AZ. The Pioneers took advantage of 8 Vermillion errors and 9 walks to go along with 14 hits in the game. 

Freshman 2B Shannon Nelson (Livingston, MT)had a big game going 2-5 (HR, 4 RBI) and was joined by freshman catcher Isabelle Adams (Park City, MT) with 4 RBI as Adams was 2-2. 3B Megan Johnson (Preston, ID) was 2-2 (HR, 3 RBI) and RF Cassidy Bagnell (Frenchtown, MT) was also 2-2 (2B, RBI, 3 R) to aid in the victory. SS Sierra John (Idaho Falls, ID) had a triple and 2 RBI while HaiLeigh Davis (Shepherd, MT), Liz Ybarra (Belgrade, MT), Alexa Lewis (Bozeman, MT), Skylar Higgs (Livingston, MT), and Morgan Lampshire (Murray, UT) all cracked out hits for the Pioneers. Mars Weaver (Rexburg, ID) walked twice with the bases loaded and had 2 RBI.

Alex Carr (Idaho Falls, ID) pitched a complete game 5 innings (3 H, R, BB, 5 SO) to earn the victory. 

 

Pioneers 8 .... Dakota Wesleyan JV 11

The MCC Pioneers dug themselves a big hole that was a little bit too deep to dig all the way out of losing 11-8 to Dakota Wesleyan JV on Sunday in Tucson, AZ. Wesleyan took a 10-2 lead before the Pioneers rallied with 6 runs in the 5th inning to cut the score to 10-8. Wesleyan then scored again in the 6th and held off a bases loaded, one out situation in the bottom of the 7th to hold on for the win. 

The Pioneers were led offensively by LF Liz Ybarra's 3-4 (2 R, 2 RBI) effort at the plate. The only extra base hit MCC could get in the game was a double by Shannon Nelson who had 2 RBI in the game. Skylar Higgs was the only other Pioneer with multiple hits going 2-5 with a run scored. HaiLeigh Davis, Cassidy Bagnell, Megan Johnson, Hazel Eaton (Belgrade, MT), and Sierra John had the other base hits for MCC. 

Freshman Arin Eaton (Belgrade, MT) got the start in the circle and made it thru 2 innings (9 H, 6 R, BB, SO) before giving way to Peyton Whitehead (Joliet, MT) for the final 5 innings (6 H, 5 R, BB, 5 SO). The 11 runs were the most given up by the Pioneers this season. 

MCC will take Monday off before starting back up on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Rochester Community & Technical College and Bethany Lutheran JV at 3:30 and 6:00 PM.
