Pioneers Move Up to 2nd Place in MonDak; Sweep NDSCS

Game 3 - Pioneers 8... NDSCS 0

Kassidy Kinzie tossed a 3-hit shutout and the MCC Pioneers broke open a close game with 5 runs in the 5th inning to walk away with an 8-0 win in game 3 of a 4 game series against the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats. Kinzie struck out 6 and only walked 1 over 6 innings of work. 

1B Hazel Eaton hit a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. In the 3rd the Pioneers got a sacrifice fly from Olivia Cook that scored Tessa Della Silva for a 2-0 lead. MCC broke things open in the 5th when RF Reagan Harper walked and 2B Tessa Della Silva singled to put runners on 1st and 2nd. CF Autumn Porter then smacked a 2 RBI double to left field for a 4-0 bulge. Porter scored on a another sacrifice fly by Cook. LF Taylor Woolley reached on an error and scored on a Megan Toplovich double. Hazel Eaton continued her hot bat with a RBI double of her own to make the score 7-0 after 4 1/2 innings. The game finishing run in the 6th came on another Porter double that scored Harper.

Kinzie then closed out the game as MCC had an 8-0 lead after 6 innings. The Pioneers scored 8 runs on 8 hits, walked 5 times, and struck out 5 times. 

Game 4 - Pioneers 16... NDSCS 8

The MCC Pioneers cracked 5 home runs enroute to a 16 run explosion for a 4-game sweep of the then 2nd place NDSCS Wildcats. The Pioneers moved in to 2nd place in the MonDak Conference with the sweep. RF Ashlin Hiller, P Hazel Eaton, 1B Lilinoe Nihi, DP Megan Toplovich, and 2B Kelealani Waiau all homered and the Pioneers built an 11-1 lead before seeing NDSCS score 7 in the 4th inning to cut the lead to 11-8. MCC then finished things off with a 5-run 5th for and 8 run lead that would end the game after 5. 

CF Tessa Della Silva was 3-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. 3B Olivia Cook was 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored while P Hazel Eaton helped herself in the circle with a 2-4, 2 RBI, and 3 run performance at the plate. Toplovich was 2-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored and Hiller was 2-3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. 

Hazel Eaton started in the circle and went 3 2/3 innings and gave up 7 runs on 8 hits. She struck out 1 Wildcat. Taylor Woolley came in to record an out in the 4th and gave up 2 hits and a run. Kassidy Kinzie pitched the final inning and gave up 1 hit and struck out 1. 

The Pioneers finish the regular season at home today at 1:00 and 3:00 vs. Williston State.
