Pioneers Have Strong Showing at Home Rodeos

Rodeo #1 (April 23-24)

The MCC Pioneer rodeo teams had a chance to perform in front of the home crowd for the first and only time in the 2025-26 rodeo season. The performance turned out to be a positive one for both teams as the Pioneers had individual success and both teams finished in 3rd place in the Pioneer Showdown. Montana State was the men's team champion with 980 points. The University of Montana - Western was the women's team champion with 417.5 points.

On the women's side of the rodeo, the Pioneers got an individual champion in Goat Tying as Josie Menzel (Philip, SD) came up with a title with a time of 12.8. She won the long go in 6.2 seconds and then finished in a tie for 2nd in the short go at 6.6 to give her 1st place. Clancy Hornberger (Blaisdell, ND) finished in 3rd place during the long go in Breakaway Roping with with a time of 2.5 seconds. She was unable to catch the steer in the short go so she fell just short of an overall place. Mia Mader (Broadus, MT - Header) teamed up with Gus Lee (Choteau, MT - Heeler) in Team Roping for a 4th place finish in the long go (12.7 seconds) and backed that up with another 4th place finish in the short go (17.3 seconds). That gave the team a 4th place finish in the average with a total time of 30 seconds. The MCC women scored 200 points in Rodeo #1

The men's team scored 270 points for their 3rd place finish. To go along with Lee's success in Team Roping, Weston LaPierre (Killdeer, ND) had a strong showing in Tie Down Roping. LaPierre finished in 3rd place for the long go with a time of 11.1. That propelled him to the short go where he placed 3rd again with a time of 10.3. His total time of 21.4 was good for 2nd place in the average. Korbin Baldwin (Whitefish, MT) finished in 2nd place for Bull Riding with a score of 72 in the short go.

Rodeo #2 (April 25-26)

The MCC men's rodeo team had another solid performance in rodeo #2 and once again finished in 3rd place with 180 points. Weston LaPierre did the heaving lifting during rodeo 2 by placing in 2 events. LaPierre (Healer) teamed up with Macey Freemantle (Kamloops, BC - Header) in team roping for a 3rd place finish in the long go with a time of 8 seconds. The team was unable to catch in the short go and due to not catching during he short go, the team finished in 6th place in the average.

Korbin Baldwin finished in 5th place during the short go with a score of 61.

Freemantle's team roping success with LaPierre were the only points for the women's team in rodeo 2 as the Pioneer scored 50 points to finish in 5th place.
