Dawson Holds Off Pioneers Charge

Two eastern Montana NJCAA rivals squared off on Monday night in Miles City and the Dawson Community College Buccaneers held off a late Miles Community College Pioneer rally to stay unbeaten in MonDak Conference play with a 100-87 win at the MCC Centra.

Dawson built a 58-46 halftime lead after the game was tied at 38-38. The 2nd half was much of the same as Dawson created a 19-point lead with 13:00 to play only to see the Pioneers cut the lead to 86-81 with 4:00 to play. Dawson made the plays down the stretch that they needed to make including back to back 3-point baskets after the Pioneers had cut the lead to 5.

Seth Amunrud (6'3 Sophomore - Bozeman, MT) scored 30 points (11-25 FG, 5-13 3's, 3-3 FT) and grabbed 5 rebounds to lead the Dawson charge. He was followed by Justin Asi (6'6 Sophomore - Melbourne, Australia) with 19 points (8-13 FG, 2-6 3's, 1-2 FT) and 6 rebounds. Kur Maler (6'8 Sophomore - Melbourne, Australia) added 12 points (4-15 FG, 1-10 3's, 3-4 FT) and a team high 9 rebounds. 

Yohandry Ortiz (6'5 Freshman - Naples, FT) had 31 points (10-24 FG, 2-11 3's, 9-13 FT) and 6 rebounds and Koak Kok (6'7 Sophomore - Ulan, South Sudan) had a double-double with 20 points (8-11 FG, 0-1 3's, 4-4 FT) and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Beauchamp (5'8 Freshman - Toledo, OH) added 11 points (3-10 FG, 1-3 3's, 4-7 FT), 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
