Pioneers Defeat Bismarck State in 2 OT Thriller

Blessing Adesipe (6'6 Sophomore) scored 35 points (13-21 FG, 1-6 3's, 8-13 FT) and grabbed 11 rebounds as the MCC Pioneers won their 4th consecutive game with a thrilling 97-88 double overtime win over the Bismarck State Mystics in Miles City, MT on Monday night. Bismarck State PG Deonte' Martinez (5'8 Sophomore)gave the Mystics a 70-69 lead with 8 seconds remaining in regulation converting on 2 free throws. The Pioneers Denzel Kabasele (6'3 Sophomore) then tied the game going 1-2 at the line when he was fouled driving to the basket with 4 seconds remaining. 

MCC controlled most of the 1st overtime before Mystic forward Jaden Hamilton (6'7 Sophomore) hit a 3-point basket with 9 seconds remaining to tie the game at 79-79 with 9 seconds remaining. Pioneer guard Chazz Haws (6'1 Freshman) then rattled out a 3-pointer at the buzzer sending the game to double overtime. The Pioneers dominated the 2nd overtime scoring 18 points and holding the Mystics to 9. Kabasele and Payton Kokot (6'3 Freshman) each combined for three 3's in the 2nd overtime before Kokot and Adesipe locked up the game at the free throw line. 

Kabasele finished the game with 25 points (9-18 FG, 5-9 3's, 2-8 FT) and Kokot finished with 23 (6-13 FG, 4-10 3's, 7-9 FT), 5 rebounds. Ethan Venema (6'7 Freshman) had a big game in the paint with 10 points (5-9 FG), 15 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. 

The Mystics (8-11 MonDak, 10-15 Overall) were led in scoring by Deonte' Martinez with 26 points (9-20 FG, 3-4 3's, 5-5 FT), 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jayden Bernard (6'4 Sophomore) scored 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-5 3's, 0-2 FT) and grabbed 5 rebounds off the bench for the Mystics while Anthony Bertucci (6'4 Freshman) added 12 points (5-19 FG, 1-10 3's, 1-2 FT), 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jaden Hamilton also hit double figures with 11 points (3-6 FG, 2-3 3's, 3-4 FT) and 5 rebounds.

The Pioneers are now 7-13 in MonDak Conference play and 8-21 overall. They will finish out their regular season at Dawson CC on Sunday at 4:00 PM. MCC has clinched a 1st round home game on March 1 against either Lake Region State or Williston State.
