2nd Half Surge Lead Pioneer Men to Win at Bismarck State

The MCC Pioneer men trailed by as many as 15 points late in the 2nd half in Bismarck on Monday night before turning things around in the 2nd half of a 91-82 win and a season sweep of the Bismarck State Mystics. The Pioneers came to life after a 44-point drubbing the day before at Lake Region State by outscoring the Mystics 53-38 in the 2nd half after trailing 44-38 at halftime. 

Blessing Adesipe (Houston, TX) scored 25 points (9-17 FG, 2-3 3's, 5-7 FT) and snagged 14 rebounds to lead the way for MCC and Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, NV) added 23 points (9-17 FG, 2-7 3's, 3-5 FT) and 7 rebounds. Tvon Jones (Philadelphia, PA) scored 13 points (5-12 FG, 1-3 3's, 2-5 FT)  to go along with 5 rebounds and Denzel Kabasele (Lancaster, PA) chipped in 11 points (4-6 FG, 1-1 3's, 2-2 FT). Eli Habighorst (Las Vegas, NV) dished out 6 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds while Ethan Bell (Chinook, MT) had 3 steals. Adesipe and Daniels combined for 27 points in 2nd half and Kabasele scored all of his after the halftime break. 

Bismarck State got 24 points (18 in 1st half) from Seth Nelson (Carrington, ND) (7-16 FG, 4-8 3's, 6-6 FT) and a team high 8 rebounds. Jaden Mitzel (Bismarck, ND) hit for 13 points (4-6 FG, 5-6 FT) and Jerrick Baines (Alexandria, LA) added 12 points (5-8 FG, 0-2 3's, 2-2 FT).

  • The Pioneers dominated the rebounding battle 45-28. MCC had 11 offensive boards and BSC had only 3.
  • MCC shot 34-70 (49%) from the field and 8-22 (36%) from 3-point line. BSC was 29-65 (45%) and 5-20 (25%) from 3-point line. 
  • Each team had 19 turnovers.
  • The Mystics were 19-22 from the free throw line and the Pioneers were 15-23. 
  • The Pioneers outscored the Mystics 46-30 in the paint.

MCC moved to 6-14 in MonDak Conference play and 9-22 overall. The Pioneers will host Dawson on Sunday afternoon in the last regular season game of the season. The game will be Breast Cancer Awareness (Pink Day) as well as sophomore recognition. BSC dropped to 7-13 in MonDak play and 12-15 overall.
