A cold shooting night at the MCC Centra spelled doom for the Pioneers in a 91-78 loss to Lake Region State College. The Pioneers connected on only 5-24 (21%) from the 3-point line and 15-28 (54%) from the free throw line. Lake Region State was led in scoring by transfers Clarence Daniels with 18 points (7-16 FG, 4-6 FT) and 13 rebounds while Anthony Davis also dropped 18 points (9-14 FG, 0-2 3's) and dished out a team high 6 assists. Lake Region finished the game shooting 31-60 (52%) and 5-13 from the 3-point line. The Royals had their share of issues at the FT line as they hhit 22-39 (56%).
The Pioneers tried to fend off some early first half foul issues as 4 different players had 3 fouls at the half. The Pioneers had a balanced attack led by Tvon Jones (Philadelphia, PA) off the bench with 17 points (5-10 FG, 2-5 3's, 5-7 FT). Kaleb Naylor (Zion, IL) scored 13 points (5-8 FG, 1-4 3's, 2-2 FT) and that was followed up by 12 points apiece from Paul Gakmar (Perth, Australia) on (6-6 FG, 0-2 FT) to go along with 7 rebounds and Blessing Adesipe (Houston, TX) on (5-12 FG, 0-3 3's, 2-3 FT) and a team high 9 rebounds. Ray Daniels (Las Vegas, NV) added 10 points (4-11 FG, 2-2 FT) before fouling out in only 16 minutes.
Eli Habighorst (Las Vegas, NV) had a team high 9 assists to go along with 7 rebounds. The Pioneers held a slim 44-43 edge on the boards in a physical game. Lake Region committed 21 turnovers compared to 16 for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers dropped to 2-3 on the season and 1-3 in MonDak Conference play. MCC will host Dawson on Monday night at the MCC Centra in the 2nd game of a doubleheader with the MCC women starting things off at 5:30 PM.
