Game 1 - Pioneers 19... Lake Region State 3 (5 Innings)

The MCC Pioneers had the hot bats going on Saturday scoring 19 runs in just 4 at bats and put a beating on Lake Region State in game 1 of the MonDak Conference Playoff series. 

Nine different Pioneers had hits including Chance Descalchuk (3B - Regina, Saskatchewan) and Liam Sullivan (CF - Great Falls, MT)with 3 hits each. Ethan Forrest (LF - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan), Karter Scott (1B - Regina, Saskatchewan), and Dane Gilbert (DH - Monument, CO) each had 2 hits. 

Descalchuk and Gilbert connected for home runs and Descalchuk added a triple and a single. Sullivan had 2 doubles and Gilbert, Holden Christensen (C - Casper, WY), and Scott had doubles. 

Descalchuk had 4 RBI and Gilbert had 3. Chase Carnahan (2B - Fallon, NV), Sullivan, Forrest, Christensen, and Brock Lopez (Commerce City, CO) each had 2 RBI. 

The Pioneers scored 5 runs in each of the 1st and 2nd innings to go along with one run in the 3rd and 8 runs in the 4th inning. 

Lee Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) pitched a complete game 5 innings (4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 SO) to pick up the win. 

Inside the Box Score

  • The Pioneers had 16 hits (2 HR, 3B, 5 2B) and the Royals had 4 hits (2 2B). 
  • The Royals had 4 erros and the Pioneers had 2. 
  • MCC had 4 stolen bases. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 3 times and walked 6 times. 
  • Royal batters struck out 5 times, walked once, and had one hit batsman. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 21... Lake Region State 6 (5 Innings)

In what seemed like an extension of game 1, the Pioneer offensive onslaught continued by once again scoring in all 4 innings including a 13 run 3rd inning barrage. The Pioneers punched out 18 hits in game 2 to easily advance to the Region XIII Playoffs next weekend in Williston, ND. 

Chance Descalchuk continued his hot hitting with a 4-4 effort at the plate that included a home run and 2 doubles. Descalchuck collected 8 RBI in the game as well. Anthony Williams (C - Billings, MT) was 3-4 at the plate with a home run, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Raymond Shawver (RF - Miles City, MT) was 3-3 at the plate with a walk, RBI, and 3 runs scored. C2 RBI ahase Carnahan was also 3-4 with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. 

Liam Sullivan was 2-2 with 2 walks, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Karter Scott went deep and had 3 RBI and Dane Gilbert also connected for another home run and 2 runs scored. 

MCC scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd, 13 in the 3rd, and 2 in the 4th and scored in all 8 innings they batted in Saturday afternoon. 

AJ Truman (Eureka, MT) got the start and pitched 3.1 innings (3 H, R, 2 BB, 2 SO) and gave the ball to Keenan Kraft for the next 0.2 innings (H, SO). Logan Bertagnolli (West Jordan, UT) pitched 0.1 innings (H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, SO) and Ethan Evans (Sheridan, WY) pitched 0.2 innings (H, 2 BB, 2 SO).

  • The Pioneers had 18 hits (4 HR, 3 2B) and the Royals had 6 hits (3B). 
  • Each team had 1 error. 
  • The Pioneers had 1 stolen base.
  • Pioneer batters stuck out twice, walked 6 times, and were hit by pitch once.

The Pioneers are now 29-18 on the season and will take the #4 seed in the Region XIII Playoffs. MCC will face the host and #1 seed Williston State Tetons on Friday at 12:00 PM MDT.
