Pioneers Split With NDSCS; Snap 5-Game Losing Streak

Game 1 - Pioneers 3... NDSCS Wildcats 9

The NDSCS Wildcats scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and propelled that to a 9-3 win over the MCC Pioneers. The loss was the 5th consecutive for the Pioneers after dropping a 4-game series last weekend to Williston State. 

NDSCS got on the board in the 1st inning with a single run, but MCC scored 2 in the top of the 3rd to take a 2-1 lead. Chase Carnahan (2B - Fallon, NV) drove home a run with a double and then was driven in by a RBI single from Ethan Forrest (LF - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). 

The Pioneer lead was short lived as NDSCS plated 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. That lead extended to 9-2 after 2 runs in the 5th inning and 2 more in the 6th inning. MCC's final run of the game came in the 7th inning when Raymond Shawver (RF - Miles City, MT) walked, stole 2nd, and scored on a Liam Sullivan (CF - Great Falls, MT) single. 

Lee Neubauer (Rapid City, SD) took the loss for the Pioneers pitching 4 innings (7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO). Eli Kelley pitched the 5th inning (2 H, 2 R, SO) and Ryan Kelly (Miles City, MT) pitched the 6th inning (2 H, 2 R, BB, SO).

Game 2 - Pioneers 4... NDSCS Wildcats 3

The MCC Pioneers got a solo home run from Karter Scott (1B - Regina, Saskatchewan) in the top of the 6th inning to break a 3-3 tie and held on to defeat NDSCS and snap a 5-game losing streak with a hard fought 4-3 win in game 2. Scott was the only Pioneer to have 2 hits in the game. 

The Pioneers scored a run in each of the 1st 3 innings only to see the Wildcats tie the game with a run in the 4th inning and 2 more in the 5th. 

MCC's 1st and 2nd runs came on a fielder's choice plays in the 1st 2 innings. The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead after Liam Sullivan sinlged and was driven in by a Chance Descalchuk (DH - Regina, Saskatchewan) double. 

Dominic Johnatakis (Syracuse, UT) had another strong outing for the Pioneers pitching 6 innings (6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 SO) to gather the win. Pierce Hollowell (Miles City, MT) got the save pitching the 7th inning (SO).

  • Neither team had an error. 
  • The Pioneers had 2 stolen bases. 
  • Pioneer batters struck out 5 times and walked 5 times.

The Pioneers are 11-7 in MonDak Conference action and 25-18 overall. NDCSC is 7-11 in conference. The teams will play another doubleheader tomorrow in Fargo, ND.
