Pioneers Season Ends in Region XIII Playoffs

1st Round - Pioneers 6 ... Williston State 11

The Pioneers could not get the big hit on Saturday afternoon and left 15 runners on base as the Williston State Tetons upset MCC 11-6 in opening round of the Region XIII Playoffs. 

Williston State got on the board with a run in the 1st inning and followed it up with another run in the 2nd. They then piled up 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 7-0 lead. 

The Pioneers scored a run in each of the 4th, 5th, and 6th inning to cut the lead to 7-3 but Williston State scored 4 runs in the 8th inning on no hits to take a 11-3 lead. The Pioneers scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th inning on a 2-run home run by Jace Notbohm (DH - Miles City, MT) and then back to back doubles from Kade Mosley (3B - Miles City, MT) and Jaden Salazar (LF - Chicago, IL). The Pioneer inning ended with the bases loaded as they were looking to come a little bit closer. 

Mosley was 2-5 (2B, R, RBI) at the plate and Salazar was also 2-5 (2 2B, RBI). Taichi Fujinaga (2B - Honolulu, HI) was 2-4 (2B, R) and Lance Bratlien (RF - Helena, MT) was 2-3 (2 BB). 

Jacob Walker (Brisbane, Australia) got the start for MCC and pitched 6.2 innings (10 H, 7 R, 3 BB, 2 SO) and gave way to Sam Hall (Eureka, MT) for the next 0.1 innings (4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 HBP). Spencer Searcey (Denver, CO) finished the next 2 innings and struck out 2.

Game 2 (Loser Out) Pioneers 6 ... Bismarck State 7

Saturday did not go as planned for the MonDak Conference champion MCC Pioneers. The Pioneer season came to an end Saturday afternoon in Miles City dropping a 7-6 decision to the Bismarck State Mystics. 

Bismarck State picked up a run in the 1st inning and the Pioneers answered with a run in the bottom of the 1st after Brady Bickett (CF - Rapid City, SD) singled and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. He advanced to 3rd on a ground out and then scored on another Pioneer ground out. 

The Mystics picked up 3 more runs in the 4th and another in the 5th to build a 5-1 lead. The Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the 5th on a grand slam home run from Coleman Parry (1B - American Fork, UT). 

The tie was short lived as the Mystics picked up 2 runs in the top of the 7th for a 7-5 lead. The Pioneers scored a run in the in the bottom of the 9th to cut the lead to 7-6 but the Pioneer season came to an end on a ground out with a runner at 1st base. 

Max Holden (Kalispell, MT) got the start and pitched 5 innings (5 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 4 SO). Tyler Cutler (Helena, MT) pitched the next 1.2 innings (3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 SO) and Jace Notbohm finished the final 2.1 innings (5 BB, 5 SO).
