Game 1 - Pioneers 10... Williston State 11 (8 Innings)
A back and forth game went to the wire and the Williston State Tetons scored the game winning run on a bases loaded walk as the Tetons rallied from an 8-3 deficit to win its 2nd game in a row against the Pioneers with an 11-10 victory in extra innings.
Williston State started hot scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Pioneers then scored runs in each of the next 5 innings to take an 8-3 lead going to the bottom of the 6th. WSC notched a 7 spot in the 6th to take a 10-8 lead. The Pioneers tied things up in the top of the 7th when Clay Prell (Miles City, MT) hit a sacrifice fly scoring Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT) and then Ryota Kusumoto scored on an errant throw to the place to send the game to extra innings.
Kusumoto (Cairns, Australia) had a big game at the plate going 2-4 (HR, 2 RBI, 2 Runs). The 1st 3 hitters in the Pioneer lineup all had 2 hits in the game. Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) was 2-2 (2B, 2 Runs, RBI), Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) was 2-5 (2B, 2 RBI, 2 Runs), and Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) was 2-5 (2B, 3B, 2 RBI) as the Pioneers collected 11 hits.
Caeden Riley (Torrington, WY) had a short stint on the mound going 0.2 innings (5 H, 3 R). Patrick Dietz (Manhattan, MT) pitched 4.2 innings (5 R, 5 Hits, 4 SO, 1 BB). Bo Hays (Bozeman, MT) finished the final 1.2 innings (3 R, 3 H, 4 BB, 3 SO).
Game 2 - Pioneers 3... Williston State 13 (6 Innings)
Williston State piled on 6 runs in the 3rd inning to break open a close game and Pioneer pitchers allowed 13 walks in the Tetons 13-3 victory in Williston to take 3 out of 4 games from the Pioneers over the weekend.
The Pioneers got off to a quick start with 2 runs in the top of the 1st. Jaeden Jordahl and Jake Lacey kicked off the game with singles and Tim Holyk followed that with an RBI single of his own. Jake Lacey then scored on a double steal for a 2-0 lead. Williston tied things up in the bottom of the 1st to make it 2-2.
MCC went back on top in the 2nd inning when Ryota Kusumoto walked and stole consecutive bases before scoring on a wild pitch. That was the last the Pioneers would cross home plate as the Tetons scored 11 unanswered runs to take control of the game and the series.
The Tetons got 6 in the 3rd, one in the 5th, and 4 more in the 6th to end the game early. The Pioneers only mustered up 5 hits in the game and the only player with multiple hits was Jordahl with a 2-3 effort. Lane Neill had the only extra base hit in the game for MCC with a double.
The Pioneers struggled on the mound giving up 12 hits and 13 walks. Cy Miller (Helena, MT) got the start and lasted only 2 innings. Miller (8 R, 6 H, 4 BB, 4 SO) gave way to Jay Neugebauer (Rapid City, SD) who went 1.2 innings (1 H, 5 BB, 1 SO). Josh Banderob (Great Falls, MT) took a turn and went 0.2 innings (1 R, 1 H, 3 BB) and Wyatt Searcy (Littleton, CO) finished the game going one inning (4 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 SO) when the Tetons ended things due to the 10-run rule after 6 innings.
The Pioneers are now 5-7 in MonDak Conference play and 21-17 overall. They are scheduled to play Lake Region State College on Friday and Saturday in Miles City for a pair of double dips.
