MCC Baseball Splits With Prairie Baseball on Sunday Doubleheader

Game 1 - Pioneers 4... Prairie Baseball 8

In game 3 of a 4-game weekend series, the Pioneers could only do damage in the 3rd inning and gave up 6 runs over the final 4 frames as Prairie Baseball Academy that snapped a 5-game winning streak for MCC. PBA took a 2-0 lead to the bottom of the 3rd when SS Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) broke the ice and homered to leftfield. With 2 outs, 1B Kaleb Breeze (West Valley City, UT) singled to left and was followed up with a single by 2B Tyler Tenney (Helena, MT) to put runners on the corners. RF Ian Krump hit a 3-run homer to leftfield to give the Pioneers a 4-2 lead.

PBA answered with a run in the 4th, 4 in the 5th, and another in the 7th to pull of the victory.

Jordahl and Tenny were the only players with multiple hits in the game as the Pioneers walked only twice and struck out 3 times. MCC had 4 errors in the game that didn't help their cause.

Bridger Erickson (St. Anthony, ID) got the nod on the mound and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 4.1 innings of work. Erickson struck out 4 PBA batters and walked 2. He gave way to Noah Aliff (Centralia, WA) for 0.2 innings and Aliff allowed 2 runs on one hit and a walk. Josh Banderob (Great Falls, MT) completed the final 2 innings and gave up a hit and a run while striking out 2.

Game 2 - Pioneers 11... Prairie Baseball 9

The final game of a 4-game series prior to MonDak Conference play, MCC reeled off 7 runs in the 2nd inning after PBA hit for 4 in the first as the Pioneer pulled off a split of Sunday's doubleheader.

C Clay Prell (Miles City, MT) was a perfect 3-3 with a home run and 5 RBI. After PBA plated 4 in the top of the 1st inning on a grand slam home run, the Pioneers struck for 10 runs in the next 3 frames and held on for a 11-9 win on Sunday afternoon.

Prell knocked in his 1st RBI of the game with a single in the bottom of the 1st to cut the PBA lead to 4-1. In the 2nd inning, 1B Bridger Erickson  and CF Brady Jones (Manhattan, MT) both walked and a Wyatt Searcy (Littleton, CO) bunt was not properly fielded by the pitcher which scored Erickson. Jones then scored on a wild pitch and DH Tommy O'Connell (Kalispell, MT) walked and LF Matt Burton (Helena, MT) sacrificed those runners to 2nd and 3rd. 2B Dalton Martin (Gillette, MT) singled down the 3rd base line scoring Searcy and tying the game at 4-4. SS Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT) singled to lead the bases for Prell. Press quickly knocked a grand slam home run to left field for an 8-4 lead.

The Pioneers got 2 more in the 3rd inning after back to back singles by Jones and Searcy and an error by the catcher put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Burton came up clutch with a 2-RBI single to CF and a 10-4 Pioneer lead. After the lead was cut to 10-8 in the 4th, the Pioneers scored after a couple of PBA errors to take a 11-8 lead.

Cameron Murphy (Torrington, WY) was on the hill for 4.1 innings and gave up 9 runs on 7 hits. Murphy walked 4 and struck out one. Jeremy Gee finished off the final 2.2 innings with a walk a 2 hits.

The PIoneers start MonDak Conference play at home next Saturday as they host Bismarck State at 1:00 PM.
