Game 1 - Pioneers 13... Western Technical College 1

Pitcher Bo Hays (Bozeman, MT) threw a 1-hit gem and after a couple of quiet innings the Pioneers bats got rolling as MCC cruised past Western Technical College 13-1 in the first game of a twin bill Tuesday afternoon. Hays gave up a hit to the first batter of the game and simply allowed nothing after that as he walked only 1 and struck out 4 in the game over 5 innings. 

RF Ian Krump (Rapid City, SD) carried a hot stick going 3-4 on the day with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored that included a single, double, and triple. 1B Kaleb Breeze (West Valley City, UT) was 2-3 with a double and an RBI and 3B Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) was 1-2 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. 2B Tyler Tenney (Helena, MT) and C Karter Yancey (St. Anthony, ID) picked up the other RBI's in the game. 

After Western Tech scored an unearned run in the 1st inning, MCC struck for 4 in the 3rd inning after SS Jaeden Jordahl (Billings, MT) and CF Jake Lacey (Gillette, WY) walked. Holyk then drove obth in on an RBI single to left. Krump then singled and the 2 baserunners advanced on a wild pitch. Holyk scored on a wild pitch Breeze reached on an error that brought in Krump. 

In the 4th inning, LF Grant Gabbert (Thorton, CO) singled on a bunt and was driven in on the triple by Yancey. Jordahl and Lacey were then each hit by a pitch to load the bases and Holyk was also hit by a pitch to bring in courtesy runner Matt Burton (Helena, MT). Krump followed that up with a 3-run triple to rightfieldand a 9-1 Pioneer lead. Breeze walked and Tenney grounded in to a fielder's choice to SS and Krump scored to end the inning up 10-1. The 5th inning saw walks by Lacey and Clay Prell (Miles City, MT). After some wild pitching by Western Tech and Lacey scoring, Krump doubled to leftfield and drove in Prell followed by another double by Breeze that drove in Krump for the final run of the game. 

The Pioneers collected 9 hits and drew 5 walks in the game. They also had 6 strikeouts and committed 2 errors in the field. Western Tech committed 3 errors. 

 

Game 2 - Pioneers 14... Western Technical College 7

The MCC Pioneers took care of business early by scoring 3 runs in the 1st and 9 in the 3rd to build a 12-2 lead and coast to a 14-7 victory and doubleheader sweep on Tuesday in Tucson, AZ. 

CF Jake Lacey had the hot bat in Game 2 going 3-3 (Double, Home Run) with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored and LF Grant Gabbert was 2-3 (double) with 3 RBI and a run scored to lead the 13 hit barrage for the Pioneers. 1B Kaleb Breeze was 2-3 (HR) and 2 RBI.

SS Jaeden Jordal kicked things off in the 1st inning with a lead off triple to right and scored on a CF Jake Lacey double. Lacey then stole 3rd and scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0. RF Ian Krump walked, reached 3rd on a single by Breeze, and then scored on a wild pitch. Western Technical cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the 3rd but the Pioneers pushed thru 9 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. 

DH Ryoto Kusumoto (Australia) was hit by a pitch and C Takumi Kimoto singled on a bunt to 3rd that advanced Kusumoto to 3rd base on the throw to 1st. Gabbert doubled to center that scored Kusumoto and courtesy runner Matt Burton. Gabbert advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by 3B Lane Neill (Belgrade, MT). 2B Clay Prell singled to right field to drive in Gabbert. After Prell stole 2nd, Jordahl walked and Lacey hit a 3-run homer to left and a 9-2 lead. Krump tripled to right field and was followed up by a Breeze home run to left and an 11-2 lead. Kimoto then hit a 2-out double to right and courtesy runner Burton was again driven in on a Gabbert single. 

Western Tech tacked on 2 runs in the top of the 4th to make it 12-4. Clay Prell walked and Dalton Martin (Gillette, WY) came in to pinch run. Martin stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a grounder by Mason Flanary (Rexburg, ID). Brady Jones (Manhattan, MT) reached on an error that scored Martin. After Western scored 2 in the 5th to make it 13-6, Bridger Erickson (St. Anthony, ID) walked and stole 2nd before being driven in by a Burton double to end the Pioneer scoring. 

Patrick Dietz (Manhattan, MT) got the start and pitched a strong 3.1 innings dealing 8 strikeouts. He gave up 6 hits and 4 runs while only walking 2 batter. Jay Neugebauer pitched the final 2.2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits. He struck out 3 batters and walked 2. 

The Pioneers moved their season record to 7-6 and will face Northland CC again tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM and Aurora University at 12:00 PM.
