Game 1 - Pioneers 3... Western Nebraska 12
Dawson Parry (American Fork, Utah) cracked a monsterous 3-run homer in the bottom of the first to deep center field but that was all the offense that the Pioneers could muster up as the Western Nebraska Cougars had their bats cooking in a 12-3 WNCC win. The loss snapped a 6-game losing streak for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers had only 4 hits in the game and struck out 7 times as the Cougars turned the tides on the Pioneers after MCC won 2 games in Scottsbluff on Tuesday.
Cade Stuff (Great Falls, MT), Lewis Johnson (Evans Head, Australia), and Jayden Webster (South Jordan, Utah) were the only other Pioneers to get hits.
Keith Manby (White Rock, BC) got the start going 2 1/3 innings and giving up 8 runs on 8 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jaxon Grogan (Castle Rock, CO) went 3 1/3 giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. Cy Miller (Helena, MT) finished things off for 1 1/3 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 run.
Game 2 - Pioneers 3... Western Nebraska 4
Western Nebraska rallied from a 0-3 hole with 3 runs in the 6th and the winning run in the top of the 7th. Pioneer starter Chase Linn (Great Falls, MT) had things going on the mound early giving up only 2 hit and no runs thru 5 innings. Linn had 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in his 5 2/3 innings of work. The Cougars then got to Linn in the 6th with 3 runs on 3 hits before Linn gave way to Mason Flanary (Rexburg, ID). Flanary went 1 inning and gave up 1 hit and 1 run.
3B Tim Holyk (Nanaimo, BC) was 2-3 in the game with a solo shot in the 2nd inning. LF Hunter Lasko (Salt Lake City, UT) then added a 2-run blast in the 4th to give the Pioneers the 3-0 lead that they could not hold on to. The Pioneers had only 5 hits in the game and struck out 7 times.
The two teams will play another doublheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:00 PM.
