(Miles City, MT) The Miles Community College women’s basketball team and head coach Nate Vogel have announced that Caitlyn Barkins, Claire Borot, Carmela Garcia-Ruiz, KP Hoffman, and Lucia Salazar De Lara will be joining the Pioneers for the 2018-2019 season.

Barkins is a 6’0” wing from Lexington, SC. Caitlyn played her high school basketball at Gray Collegiate Academy in West Columbia, SC. “Caitlyn was All-Region in her prep career in South Carolina,” coach Vogel commented. She gives us great size and amazing athletic ability at the wing spot. Caitlyn could play the 2-5 for us. She is a mismatch nightmare. She can shoot the “3” and get by people from the wing or post up smaller players in the post. She gives us everything we were looking for at our Wing spot.”

Borot is a 6’0” wing from Martinique, France. She attends and played her high school basketball at Life Prep Academy in Wichita, KS. Borot was first team All-Conference two years in a row. She was a member of the conference championship team in 2017 and the State Championship team in 2018. Coach Vogel is thrilled to have Borot on the team, “Claire was a player we really wanted and went after hard. We knew when she came for her visit she was going to be a great fit! Claire has great length and athleticism at the Wing spot. She is a 6’ Wing player that can shoot or take you off the dribble. She can also post you up if you put a guard on her. She is really hard to guard. She also gives us a lot of different options defensively. Claire is a perfect fit!”

Garcia-Ruiz is a 5’7” combo guard from Madrid, Spain. She attends and played her high school basketball at Instituto Gerardo Diego in Madrid. Carmela was a member of the Madrid Region Junior League championship team and placed fifth with her team at the Junior Spain Championships. “Carmela gives us flexibility at the PG/SG spot,” coach Vogel commented. “We are excited about her ability to run the show and make great decisions and also be able to score the ball well from either guard spot. She will allow us to continue our pressure defense as she is a pest on that end of the floor.”

Hoffman is a 5’9” post player from Big Sky, MT. Coach Vogel is thrilled with the addition of Hoffman. “KP checks all the boxes we were looking for when looking to add to our MCC Women’s Basketball Roster. KP was a member of the National Honor Society and was Academic All-State for 3 years in basketball. Athletically, she was 1st Team All-Conference, All-State and MVP and Captain of her team. She is the school record holder for both 2pt FG made and rebounds. She will give us a post presence that has shown the capability of scoring 30+ points on a Division 1 post player. We are excited to add a post player of KP’s ability and look forward to adding her to the family.”

Salazar De Lara is a 6’0” post player from Madrid, Spain. She attends and played her high school basketball at Nuestra Señora Del Buen Consejo in Madrid. Lucia was also a member of the Madrid Region Junior League championship team and the fifth place Junior National Spanish team. Coach Vogel is excited to bring Salazar De Lara onto the team, “Lucia brings us great international experience as she’s also a member of the Mexican National Team. Lucia is an amazing athlete that will also be able to play multiple positions. Her versatility is something we are excited to add to our roster.”

Coach Nate Vogel is eagerly anticipating the 2018-19 season, “With our 2018 class we we’re looking to add some size and athleticism and continue to add players who can play multiple positions. I think we’ve knocked it out of the park with this class!!”
