The Pioneers traveled to Lamar, CO to take on the Lopes of Lamar Community College. MCC held the lead for the majority of the game, until a big 5th inning for the Lopes spoiled the Pioneers’ hopes of victory. Lamar eventually got the win 6-2.
Parker McRae recorded the loss for the Pioneers. McRae pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and six runs. He struck out two and walked none.
The Pioneers had seven hits on the day, with Will Riley and Steven Reinig each having two hits to lead MCC.
The Pioneers lost the second half of the doubleheader 10-12, but not before attempting a late game comeback. The Pioneers fell behind early in the game, but scored eight runs in the last two innings to bring the game within two. MCC scored five runs in the seventh with Nate Bloxham, James Martin, and Khyler Thomson all having RBIs in the inning. It was a good effort by the Pioneers, but ultimately not enough.
Jonathan Ringer recorded the loss for the Pioneers. He gave up nine hits and eleven runs across three innings. He struck out two and walked one.
The Pioneers had nine hits on the day. Nate Bloxham and Chase Feller each had multiple hits. Bloxham led the Pioneers, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a home run in the second. Braxton Boyle also had a home run on the day.
“They strung hits in game one and we didn’t, that was the difference,” commented coach Jeff Brabant. “We played and pitched pretty well. Game two we decided not to play defense and beat ourselves. We are in a must win scenario now.”
