The Pioneers pitched another shut out on Saturday afternoon, defeating Itasca 8-0. Braxton Boyle doubled in the first inning, scoring one run to get the offense started. MCC scored six runs in the seventh inning to secure the victory. James Martin, Braxton Boyle, Kolton Bleggi, and Bryce Krattiger each drove in runs in the seventh.
MCC had 12 hits in the game. Jonathan Ringer, Braxton Boyle, Jordan Thomson, and Kolton Bleggi each had multiple hits on the day. Bleggi, Thomson, Boyle, and Ringer led the Pioneers in hitting with two a piece.
Luke Turner was the winning pitcher for the Pioneers. He pitched seven innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, struck out six and walked zero.
The last game in Arizona, saw the Pioneers get their first loss of the season. It was a close game until the end for the Pioneers. The game was tied at three in the top of the sixth, until Itasca was able to score two runs on a wild pitch and eventually defeat the Pioneers 6-4.
The Pioneers had seven hits in the game. Nate Bloxham and Will Riley each had multiple hits. Bloxham led MCC, going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Kolton Bleggi got the loss on the mound for the Pioneers. Bleggi went five innings, allowed one run on five hits, struck out three, and walked zero.
Coach Jeff Brabant commented on his team’s first loss of the season, “I was hoping we would get beat in our first loss. I feel 50% of losses in baseball you beat yourself. But we accomplished everything we wanted and needed to get done. Questions answered and now it’s time to move into conference play. No rest as we are back on the road Thursday.”
The Pioneers take on Trinidad State Junior College on March 16, 17, & 18 in Trinidad, CO.
