The first conference game of the season against the Pronghorns of Gillette College proved to be a challenge for the Pioneers. Early foul trouble and poor shooting hurt the Pioneers in the 1st quarter. MCC rallied back during the 2nd quarter to take an 8-point lead into the half. The Pioneers were unable to keep the momentum going, however, and the Pronghorns were able to get back in the game after the break. It was an exciting second half with numerous lead changes. With the score tied at the end of regulation, the Pioneers found themselves in their first overtime game of the season. The Pioneers had a chance to tie it up or take the lead at the end of the extra period, but their efforts fell short. The Pronghorns got the win 83-85.
“I give a lot of credit to Gillette,” said head coach Nate Vogel. “They played really well and we just didn’t have an answer for their 6’5” center. We have to move on and will look to rebound Friday against Casper College.”
Paula Rosello scored a season-high 31 points. Dakota Dosch added a double-double to the effort with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
You can see the Pioneers in action this Friday, January 12 in the Kailey Gymnasium as they take on Casper College.
