Friday night the Pioneers traveled to Bismarck, ND to take on the Mystics of Bismarck State College. The Pioneers started off slow and never really got into a rhythm against the Mystics. Coach Nate Vogel commented, “It’s always a good thing to win a college basketball game on the road. We are happy about our win, but we are not happy with our performance. We expect more of ourselves, both players and coaches.” This was the Pioneer’s first game since the loss of Bre Moea’I to a finger injury. Coach Vogel had this to say about the impact her loss has. “Not having Bre’s post presence is something we will have to work around until or if she returns. Without Bre, our substitution patterns also change. Great teams find ways to overcome these things. Hopefully we can do that."
The Pioneers held on to beat BSC 78-66. Paula Rosello Mateu led the team in scoring with 23. Patrycja Jaworska added 13 for the women.
Saturday the Pioneers took on the Thunderbirds of United Tribes Technical College. The women played well from the beginning. They held a first quarter lead of 36-14 and never looked back. They defeated the Thunderbirds 102-64.
Once again, Paula Rosello Mateu was the scoring leader with 24. Patrycja Jaworska also had a great game for the Pioneers, adding 22 points.
Coach Nate Vogel had this to say about the weekend, “Paula Rosello Mateu had a great weekend, averaging 23.5 points over the 2 game weekend. We have different players leading us in scoring and rebounding almost every game, which says a lot about the balance we have on this team.”
The Pioneers will be home for the “Blue Out” game on Wednesday, December 6 to take on the Buccaneers of Dawson Community College. Tip-off is at 5:30pm. Wear your Pioneer blue!
