Seeley Lake's Holmes joins Pioneers

Miles City, Mont. – Miles Community College head women’s basketball coach Liz Lewis has announced the signing of Shelby Holmes from Seeley Lake, MT.

Holmes is the daughter of Shawn and Michele Holmes and is a 2014 graduate of Seeley-Swan High School. In high school, Holmes dedicated her time to several organizations and clubs, while receiving awards for her efforts in community service and academics.

In 2014, she was named as the recipient of the Top Senior Community Service Award and the Best Teen in Leadership of the 4-H Club. She also served on the National Junior Honor Society and earned a Silver Ribbon at the Montana State Science Symposium.

She has been a volunteer as a summer tutor and Destinations for Education. Her community service reached the heart of the Seeley Lake community as she started the Hawk Hoop Camp for younger kids in the area.

During her prep career, she competed all four years in volleyball, basketball, and track. On the court playing for her father Shawn, she was named All-State and All-Conference her junior and senior seasons. As a senior, she averaged 11 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.

In volleyball, Holmes was named All-Conference First Team her senior season, eventually leading her team to a 3rd place finish in the District tournament.

In track, Holmes was named All-Conference and All-State her sophomore and junior years, and helped lead her team to a 2nd place finish at State.

Holmes on joining MCC:“I choose MCC because I wanted to play basketball for a hard-working coach and team that is willing to put as much time and energy into the program and athletes as I do. I wanted to play for a team with heart and I believe that Miles CC is a team and program that has more heart than any other school I have visited."

Coach Lewis on Holmes:"Shelby will make a great addition to our team. She comes from a great high school program where she was taught to work hard and to be aggressive. She is a very strong player and also has a great outside shot. We are looking forward to her progress as a Lady Pioneer.”
