Miles CC bitten by Otero Lady Rattlers

Miles CC finishes season with 77-66 loss to OJC

(Rock Springs, WY) The Otero Junior College Lady Rattlers outscored the Lady Pioneers 50-35 in the second half on Saturday evening, en-route to a 77-66 first round win in the Region IX Tournament. The Rattlers were aided primarily by 27 points from Bailey Haist who hit three 3 pt. shots from downtown.

MCC took a 31-27 halftime lead by shooting 41% in the first half, compared to Otero's 32%. The second half was a different story, as Otero found it's shooting touch and out shot the Pioneers from the field, 45% to 32 %.

Overall, it was a close game with Otero holding a slight advantage in rebounds, 47-44 and in turnovers, 15-11.

Miles CC had four players score in double-digits, led by freshman Shelby Week's 18 points. Weeks added 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman Jaycin Tini added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Petra Lumpert and sophomore Ashley Malmquist each chipped in 11 points each, while Lumpert snagged 10 rebounds and Malmquist pulled down 8 rebounds in the loss.

The Lady Pioneers, under first year head coach Liz Lewis, finished the 2013-2014 campaign with an overall record of 15-16 and 6-10 in the North sub-region.

Coach Lewis and assistant Janie Rayback will look to build on their first year success after losing four sophomores to graduation. Departing from the Pioneer blue and white will be Ashley Malmquist, Ashley Hildreth, Tess Blaquiere, and McKensie Keller.

Returning to the hardwood in 2014-2015 will be Petra Lumpert, leading scorer Jaycin Tini, Shelby Weeks, Lindsey Warner, and Savanah Robinson.
