Women open Region IX play with victory

(Miles City)- The Lady Pioneers of Miles Community College continued their early season success, as they began Region IX conference play 1-0 with a victory of Central Wyoming College. The win propelled MCC to a 6-1 overall and 1-0 in conference records.

The Pioneers out battled the Lady Rustlers on the glass with a 51-45 rebound advantage and also took advantage of matchups down low, scoring 44 points in the paint.

Leading four players in double figure scoring was freshman guard Petra Lumpert who scored 23 points, while pulling down 6 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists. Jaycin Tini added 21 points and 9 rebounds.

Tess Blaquiere and Ashley Malmquist snagged 9 rebounds apiece to help aid in the advantage, while Blaquiere notched 17 points and Malmquist contributed 15 points.

Lady Pioneers fall twice

(Miles City)- The Pioneer Club Invite tournament provided stiff competition for the ladies of MCC as they took on Lake Region State College and concluded the two day event with a rematch against Williston State College. After securing their first conference win of the season, MCC came up shorthanded as Lake Region State College clinched down on the defensive end of the floor, winning 73-46. Playing their third game in as many days, Miles CC failed to revenge and an earlier season loss to Williston State College, 72-59.

Lake Region State College took advantage of 22 MCC turnovers and out-rebounded the home team, 50-41 to start the Pioneer Club Invite Tournament 1-0. LRSC held a 48-14 scoring advantage down low.

Blaquiere scored 14 points and had 9 rebounds to lead the Pioneers.

WSC 72, MCC 59

Down one at halftime, the Pioneers were outscored by the Lady Tetons 37-25 in the second half to fall to 6-3 on the season. The Tetons received 18 points off of the bench and forced 19 Pioneer turnovers. With WSC leading 56-52 at the 7:26 mark, the visitors from North Dakota finished the game on a 14-7 run to sweep the season series.

New Zealander Jaycin Tini poured in 15 points, converting on 5-6 attempts from the charity stripe and hitting on good twice from downtown. Petra Lumpert chipped in 14 points and 10 boards, while fellow Pioneer sophomore Tess Blaquiere added 9 rebounds and 12 points.

The Pioneers take a break from home and Region IX conference play when they head to Pablo, MT over the Thanksgiving Holiday to take on Salish Kootenai College and University of Great Falls-JV squads Nov 29-30. Game time on Friday is set for 6:00 pm and tip-off for Saturday’s contest is slated for 2:00 pm.
