Northwest College scores late bucket to sink Lady Pioneers

(Miles City, MT)- The Lady Trappers of Northwest College came into the Centra on Saturday, and stole a late second road victory over Miles Community College, 74-72.

The last minute of the game provided plenty of excitement and fireworks. With 56 seconds left on the clock, Ivana Grbic (Belgrade Serbia) calmly nailed two free throw attempts to tie the game at 70-70. Trappers guard Imari Simpson followed by hitting a field goal with 34 seconds remaining, setting up what would be heartbreak for MCC. After a timeout by Miles and 18 seconds left, Grbic scored a bucket to tie the game at 72-72. The game looked like it would go to a 5 minute overtime but Trapper Andressa Augusto had other plans. As time was winding down, she drove the lane and hit the game winner with 2.9 seconds remaining to seal the win for the visitors. The loss drops MCC’s record to 14-13 overall and 4-9 in Region IX play.

Grbic led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 7 boards, 9 assists, and 4 steals. Tessa Rouane (Columbus, MT) and Tess Blaquiere (Miles City, MT) added 14 and 12 points respectively. MCC held a 35-31 rebound advantage over the Trappers. The Lady Pioneers continue their home stand when the Sheridan College Lady Generals invade Miles City on Wednesday, February 20. Game time is slated for 5:30 pm.
