MCC Hires Cheerleading Coach

Leslie comes with experience

(Miles City, MT) – Kimberly Leslie has been hired as Miles Community College’s cheerleading coach and will begin in July to fill the roster for the 2012-13 squad.   The Miles City native just recently moved back into town as she has taken the Principal’s position over at Pine Hills Youth Correctional Facility this spring.  She had received her Bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and her Master’s from the University of Montana.  In addition to her education, she’s also a certified coach through the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA).

While at Northwest College she was a member of the school’s cheer squad and served as captain her first two years.  After finishing college, she taught at Broadwater High School and was the school’s cheer and dance coach.  Throughout her tenure at BHS she managed to increase the size of the squad and added boys to the roster to become a highly competitive co-ed program.  While coaching a co-ed team, she was able to increase the level of difficulty in stunting, especially partner stunting as it’s a great passion of hers.  Over the years in Broadwater, she’s turned their squad into a highly competitive program while choreographing their routines.

In addition to improving the squad, she was able to increase school spirit at Broadwater High including implementing new traditions.  She started Blue Fridays, increased competition between the classes including getting the lower grades more involved with school spirit.  Leslie has experience fundraising as they were solely responsible for their own funding which will be a benefit to an MCC program which is funded minimally.

“The downfall of returning to Miles City for the Pine Hills job was that I had to give up working with cheerleaders, so when I learned that this opportunity was available at Miles Community College I was ecstatic as this would give me the chance to continue to work with cheerleading, and to share my passion for this sport with them,” said Leslie.
