Lady Pioneers Handle Little Big Horn in Season Finale

Five in double figures in the 86-52 win

(Miles City, MT) -- The women's basketball team from Miles Community College picked up an 86-52 win against Little Big Horn College in the home finale of the 2011-12 season.  The women picked up their 20th win on the season with just nine losses on the season and move to 8-7 in Region IX North Sub-region.  

With the five sophomores starting, in the first nine minutes of the game, the Lady Pioneers opened up a 20-5 lead on the guests this afternoon on sophomore day.  From that point forward the game was back and forth as LBHC was able to cut the lead down to single digits before MCC took an 11-point lead into the break.  
To open the second half, Miles opened up the gap with a 10-2 run in the first three minutes to push the lead out to 19 (46-27).  Over the next nine minutes the two teams played even until the Lady Pioneers went on a 17-2 run to take complete control of the game over and open up a 36-point margin.  In the season finale at home, MCC led wire-to-wire to finish with the 86-52 victory.

The home team shot 40 percent from the field (19-of-53), including 45 percent in the second half.  

Miles finished with five players in double figures and all 10 players finished the contest with at least two points.  Kassie Barta (Fairfield) and Bailey Wilson (Columbus) led the team in scoring with 15 and 14, respectively.  Christen Lopez(West Jordan, UT) and Janae Reynan (Culbertson) each added 13 points while Tessa Rouane (Columbus) chipping in 11.  
MCC outrebounded the Lady Rams 54-35 including a 23-9 edge on the offensive glass.  Today's performance on the glass helped the Lady Pioneers put up 22 more field goal attempts than the visiting team.   Three different players, Lopez, Reynan, and Madara Laure (Riga, Latvia), pulled down seven rebounds in the win.
Lopez also handed out six assists and picked up six steals in just 22 minutes of playing time.  
Up next for the Lady Pioneers is the season finale at Western Wyoming Community College on Tuesday.
