Women Upset Victim Against Dawson

Reynan records double-double in loss

(Miles City, MT) – The Miles Community College Pioneers loss to in-state rival Dawson Community College last night in Glendive.  The Lady Pioneers fell victim to the upset as the Lady Bucs won 67-64 to take the Lady Pioneers to 17-6 overall and 5-4 in the North Sub-region. 

In the women’s game, MCC jumped out to an early 9-4 lead over the first five minutes of the contest before Dawson would take the 10-9 lead on back-to-back three point buckets.  From that point forward, DCC extended their lead out to as many as 11 points in the first half.  The Lady Pioneers trailed 32-24 going into the locker room at halftime. 

In the first 12 minutes of the second half, Miles managed to cut the lead down to four, trailing 44-40 with 7:34 remaining on the clock.  Over the next four-plus minutes the Lady Bucs went on a 15-4 run to stretch the lead out to 15 points with 3:20 remaining on the scoreboard.  Over the closing minutes, MCC went on a 20-7 run to cut the lead down to 66-64 with nine seconds remaining.  Dawson hit one of two free throws to take a 67-64 lead, MCC missed a three at the buzzer that would’ve sent the game into overtime. 

Kassie Barta (Fairfield) led MCC with 17 points in the defeat while Janae Reynan (Culbertson) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. 

The Lady Pioneers was held to 38 percent shooting from the floor (24-63), connecting on just four of 20 three-point attempts.  Dawson finished the game shooting 43 percent, including 48 percent in the first half to jump out to the early lead. 

Up next for the Pioneers is homecoming with a matchup against Gillette College on Wednesday, February 8th beginning at 5:30 PM.
