Lady Pioneers Dominate Northwest College

Wilson scores 16 off the bench

(Miles City, MT) – The Miles Community College women’s basketball squad picked up a 82-68 victory last night over Northwest College in Region IX North Sub-Region play.  With the win, MCC improves to 14-4 overall and 3-2 in the sub-region.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Pioneers went back and forth with Northwest College through the first five minutes as each team held a minimal three-point lead.  Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) hit a pair of free throws with 14:50 on the clock in the first half to give MCC the lead and never looked back from that point forward.  Bailey Wilson (Columbus) scored eight straight points, including hitting a pair of threes, for Miles to help push the lead out to six (16-10). 

With the score 21-17, MCC quickly pushed the lead out to 17 points as they went on a 13-0 run as Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT) hit a pair of threes, Wilson hit another, Taylor Lepley (Shepherd) hit a pair of free throws and Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored a buck off of a NWC turnover to push the lead to 34-17 with just under six minutes remaining in the period. 

In the first half, MCC shot better from beyond the arc (50 percent) than they did from the field overall (46.7 percent) to take a 45-28 margin into the break. 

The second half saw MCC extend their lead out to as many as 23 points halfway through the period before the Lady Trappers slowly chipped away at it and cut the final margin to 14, 82-68. 

The home team finished shooting 48.3 percent from the floor and 42.9 from long distance.  Wilson finished the night with a team-high 16 points off the bench to give the Lady Pioneers a 37-10 advantage in bench points.  Joining Wilson in double figures were Lopez and Grbic with 14 apiece.  Grbic also pulled down a game-high eight boards to help MCC win the battle of the glass, 47-35. 

The Lady Trappers were held to 38.3 percent shooting for the game.

Up next for the squad is a home matchup against Sheridan College on Saturday beginning at 3:00 PM.
