Women Blowout Dawson

Rouane leads squad with 14 points

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College women's basketball team defeated in-state rival Dawson Community College at home tonight in the opener of Region IX North Sub-region play.  The women picked up a 61-43 victory to go 1-0 in sub-region play and move to 11-2 on the year. 

In the women's game, MCC jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the first two and a half minutes and never looked back.  At the end of the first half, the Pioneers stretched the lead out to as 18 points as they took a 32-14 lead going into the locker room at the break.  The start of the second half was much of the same as Miles jumped out on a 10-2 run over the first 2:48 to push the lead out to a 26-point spread. 

Tessa Rouane (Columbus) led the team with a 14 points on 5-of-6 from the field.  Taylor Henderson (Miles City) also finished the evening in double figures with 11 points.  Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT) and Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia) each handed out five assists in the win over the Lady Bucs.  Grbic also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. 

MCC's defense forced 14 turnovers and holding DCC to under 30 percent from the floor.  While only committing nine turnovers of their own and shooting over 40 percent. 

Up next for the squad is a non-conference matchup against Williston State College at home tomorrow night.  This game will be the final game of the 2011 calendar year for the basketball program as finals on campus begin next week.
