Box Score

(Miles City, MT) – The Miles Community College women’s basketball team returned home for the first time in nearly a month after spending the last three-plus weeks on the road.  The women were defeated by Rocky Mountain College JV 75-73 to drop to 8-2 on the season.

In the women’s game, MCC couldn’t match the torrid shooting of Rocky as the Lady Battlin’ Bears took an early lead and held on to it for the majority of the contest.  In the first half, Rocky hit 58 percent from beyond the arc on 7-of-12 shooting while MCC hit just 4-of-15.  The Pioneers trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half before going into the intermission with just a seven point deficit, 40-33.

In the second half, the defensive effort from Miles picked up as they held the Bears to just 31 percent from the floor while MCC hit 43 percent.  The home team made a valiant effort coming back and tied the contest at 71 apiece on a Kassie Barta (Fairfield) three-pointer with 2:04 remaining.  Rocky would push the lead back to as many as three points on free throws while MCC’s Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) hit a layup to pull the Pioneers within one.  With the lead at 75-73 for Rocky, freshman Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia) went to the line with a chance to tie the game with 0.6 seconds remaining but missed the first one.  After a timeout by MCC, Grbic missed the second one on purpose and Rocky pulled down the rebound to end the game.

Barta scored a game-high 21 points in the defeat on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor and 5-9 from beyond the arc.  Domljanovic and Grbic chipped in 12 and 10, respectively.  Grbic also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Up next for MCC is the inaugural Miles CC Tourney with matchups against the University of Montana – Western JV on Friday night at 5:30 PM followed by the University of Great Falls JV on Saturday at 5:00.  Central Wyoming College will face UGF at 1:30 in the first game of the tournament on Friday and then Western on Saturday beginning at 1:00.
