Miles CC Women Completes Sweep in CSI Tournament

Defeats College of Southern Idaho 72-64

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College women's basketball defeated College of Southern Idaho 72-63 to complete the sweep in the CSI Boise Office Equipment Invite.  With the win, the team improves to 8-1 on the season and returns for five games before the Christmas break.

At first, it looked like it could have been a long night for the Pioneers as they trailed 21-9 halfway the first half.  Over the next eight minutes, MCC chipped away at the lead and took a one-point lead, 32-31 at the break.  Miles was held to 33 percent and committed 11 turnovers in the first half, but outrebounded the Golden Eagles 26-25.

In the second half, MCC was able to flip the script and shoot 45 percent from the field and only committed five turnovers.  They held CSI to 33 percent from the field and forced seven turnovers.  Coming out of the intermission, the Pioneers outscored the Golden Eagles 24-12 in the first ten-plus minutes to push the lead out to 13 and never trailed after taking the lead with 2:02 remaining in the first half.

MCC's four starting sophomores each scored in double figures, led by Kassie Barta (Fairfield) with 18 points including 5-of-6 from the free throw line.  Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT), who was playing just over just three and a half hours from, added 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists.  Taylor Henderson (Miles City) and Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) pitched in 12 and 10 points, respectively.  Freshman Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia), who led the team in scoring last night, was held to six points however pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and swatted five shots in the victory. 

As a team Miles Community College finished shooting 39 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free throw line.  The defense held CSI to under 33 percent from the field and just 9 percent from beyond the arc. 

Up next for MCC is a trio of JV programs from around the state beginning with Rocky Mountain College on Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
