(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College women's basketball team finished the opening weekend of the 2011-12 season with an 86-61 win over Salish Kootenai College in the Foundation Classic.  In the first game of the day, Rocky Mountain College defeated Jamestown College 76-61 in a battle of JV squads MCC is scheduled to face Rocky JV at the end of the month on the 30th.

Miles CC led wire-to-wire in the blowout of SKC and jumped out to a 13-0 lead before giving up their first points of the contest.  The defense helped the Pioneers jumped out to big lead early as they held the Lady Bison to under 20 percent shooting in the first half as they took a 45-25 lead into intermission.  For the game, Salish shot a bit over 30 percent  from the floor and 17 percent from beyond the three-point arc and committed 21 turnovers.  On the offensive side of the ball, MCC shot 43 percent from the floor and handed out 14 assists.

Miles Community College had four players in double figures led by sophomore center Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) with 16 points while a pair of Columbus products, Bailey Wilson and Tessa Rouane, came in off the bench and each chipped in 13 points while Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia) added 11 in the victory.  Every player scored on the night while the bench contributed 42 points. 

Domljanovic and Kassie Barta (Fairfield) each pulled down nine rebounds to help MCC win the rebounding battle.  Point guard Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT) handed out six assists in the 86-61 win.

Up next for MCC is a trip to Williston, North Dakota to play in the Preseason Mon/Dak Conference tournament despite not being affiliated with the conference anymore.  After dropping out of the conference this spring due to the Region IX dropping from four sub-regions down to two, the conference kept Miles Community College in the tournament to keep the perfect eight-team bracket on both sides.  The tournament will begin Thursday afternoon.
