MCC Women Defeats Jamestown JV

Grbic scores 24 in MCC debut

(Miles City, MT) -- In the opening game for the 2011-12 basketball season, Miles Community College defeated Jamestown College JV squad 72-44 in the Foundation Classic. In the first games of the tournament, Rocky Mountain College JV squad picked up the win against the Salish Kootenai College Lady Bison by a 104-51.

MCC's defense forced the tempo throughout the contest forcing 25 Jamestown College turnovers. The Pioneers led nearly wire-to-wire in the commanding 72-44 victory to open the season. The home team jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead in the first two minutes of the contest before JC battled back to tie the game at 11. From that point on, Miles gradually stretched the lead out to take a 16-point lead into halftime. In the second half, MCC nearly doubled their lead as it was pushed to as many as 29 late in the game.

The Pioneers were led by a pair of Ivanas, freshman Ivana Grbic (Belgrade, Serbia) led the team with a game-high 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Sophomore Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) added 11 points on 5-of-7 from the floor. Nine out of the ten players finished the night with points in the scorebook. As a team, MCC finished the night shooting 45 percent from the floor. Sophomore point guard Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT) dished out five assists, picked up four steals and pulled down four rebounds.

The Lady Jimmies were led by Bobbi Jo Bear and Jenna Bayless with a 10 points apiece.

In the final games of the Foundation Classic, MCC will matchup against Salish Kootenai College at 5:00 pm and the first contest will feature the two JV squads of Rocky and Jamestown beginning at 1:00 PM.
