Women Pick Up 52-50 Win over Lady Jacks

Lady Pioneers remain perfect in conference

The Miles Community College women's basketball team picked up a 52-50 win over Dakota College at Bottineau during homecoming festivities to move to 13-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference and 21-6 overall.   

In the women's game MCC jumped out early on the Lady Jacks to take a 12-4 lead four minutes into the contest before letting Dakota College back into the game.  After a couple of lead changes in the first half, the Lady Jacks took a three-point lead at intermission, 24-21.  Dakota stretched the lead out to as many as six points before the Lady Pioneers went on a 9-3 run to take a one-point lead with 12:27 left in the contest.  The second half saw three different lead changes and a pair of ties. 

Sophomore Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) led the Lady Pioneers with 14 points in victory.  Echo Thurston (Highwood) and Christen Lopez (West Jordan, UT) each pulled down six rebounds.  Lopez also handed out seven assists in the victory.

MCC outrebounded the Lady Jacks 34-26, including a 10-5 edge on the offensive glass.  The Lady Pioneers scored six second-chance points with their efforts on the glass.

The MCC basketball teams continue their home stand with a game on Monday night against Mon/Dak Conference opponent Bismarck State with the women's game beginning at 5:30 PM.  Monday's games will be the final games for MCC in the Mon/Dak Conference as the Pioneers cut its ties with the conference.
