MCC Women Continues Winning Ways

Picks up 68-50 win over in-state rival Dawson

(Miles City, MT) -- The Miles Community College women's basketball team picked up a win over in-state rival Dawson Community College tonight in a Region IX North sub-region and Mon/Dak Conference matchup.  The women stretched their winning streak to eight games with a 68-50 victory over the Lady Bucs to improve to 20-6 overall, 6-2 in the North sub-region, and 12-0 in the Mon/Dak Conference.  With the win, the Lady Pioneers clinched the Mon/Dak Conference championship with just two conference games remaining.  MCC is also tied for the top spot in the Region IX North sub-region as well. 

MCC never trailed in the contest despite Dawson tying the contest two different points early in the first half before pushing the lead out to six points (26-20) at the intermission.  Early in the second half, DCC cut the lead down to three points at the14:05 mark of the period.  Over the next six minutes the Lady Pioneers went on a 14-2 run to push the lead to double digits.  The Lady Pioneers kept the margin at double digits for the remaining of the contest.

In the victory, Ieva Jansone (Riga, Latvia) scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-17 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds.  Ivana Domljanovic (Split, Croatia) finished the contest with nine points and six boards.  Echo Thurston (Highwood) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in seven points.

Miles Community College forced 22 turnovers which led to 20 points and held the Lady Bucs to 35 percent shooting from the floor. 

Miles Community College will host Dakota College at Bottineau on Saturday afternoon.  The women start are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM.
